Got an update on the CW and Nexstar
Fox Business reports...
Nexstar Media Group announced Monday it would obtain a 75% ownership stake of The CW television network from Warner Bros Discovery and Paramount.
But here comes the kicker in all of this.
During a conference call with investors...
Nexstar president Tom Carter added that the CW would shift its programming from a teen and young adult audience to make it more appealing to an older demographic. Moreover, executives at Nexstar said they plan on making the network profitable by 2025.
Usually aiming for an older audience is a major risk, especially since the CW hasn't shown a profit in like never. But the older demos do have more disposable income.
The older audience equals more court shows, talk shows and reality TV with maybe a law or medical drama for scripted content.Basically The CW as we know it is coming to an end.Much like Supergirl,it's probably for the best The Flash is ending this way, under its own power with a final season because if they tried for a season 10,I don't think they would get it.I could even see Superman & Lois and Stargirl ending after their upcoming seasons. Also Gotham Knights being a one and done season.
I think whatever the combined HBO Max/Discovery + new streaming service next year will be,will the home of more genre stuff like DC T. V. shows. but probably not as many shows
