There is a recurring theme referencing Kara "flying too close to the sun", this year.
When Earth X Kara was revealed to have been dying due to overexposure to solar radiation, the exact words she used were "Like Icarus, I flew too close to the sun".
Priestess Rozz used that phrase referring to our Kara, as well. She said "You fly too close to the sun".
Was she referring to future events? She did say she had "the sight". I think it's more than coincidence that this phrase was used twice. It's possible Earth X Kara tried overexposure to solar radiation to try and get stronger. After all, she and all of her compatriots coveted power.
Do we think it's possible that Supergirl will try something similar to power up and get an edge on Reign and the Worldkillers?
If so, it sets up our arc, for next year. A season of Kara/Supergirl trying to find a cure for her overexposure, in hopes of avoiding the same fate as Overgirl.
I wasn't sure if this thought deserved it's own thread, but I'd like to hear your thoughts!

Yeah...I thought about it just being a coincidence of the writers using the same wording, twice. But "flying too close to the sun", and the whole Icarus story, is a really obscure thing to reference twice. I'm really hoping it was foreshadowing something.

Kara's lack of ability to fly in space would be wonky but, the inability or desire of the writers to remember or stick with a premise is not uncommon on this show . After all, Livewire was killed by laser beam, which in Season 1 didn't kill her but, actually made her stronger. And, there are other ways in which Kara could end up next to the sun. Maybe something or someone pulls her there - Reign or another alien that is powerful enough to do so.
But, as Gavagai said, it could have all just been a metaphor, too. Hard to say but, I do think that it's possible and that it would be an interesting concept.

This is a really great theory, I was starting to come to it as well with the wording chose.
Maybe they will just throw a few hundred sun grenades at her lol. Line up DEO....AIM....FIRE!!!! hahaha

I've been thinking the exact same thing, kdogg87. Could Kara fly into space, close to the sun to temoraly increase her powers to beat Reign, even if she knew it could kill her?

I think it's just that it's a flight based metaphor for hubris. Being accused of hubris is common for heroes. Also there is the whole almost falling into a blue star thing.
Don't assume malice when stupidity is an adequate explanation. At least, not the first time.

As far as her flying into space to become more powerful.....in this iteration's canon, she can't breath in space, and though it may be wonky science she can't make her own thrust in space.

Agreed. You and Sully came up with a rather interesting story possibility. Overgirl going all super nova WOULD be an interesting foreshadowing of "flying too close to the sun."

I could see them simply using the phrase twice...the writers that wrote the crossover, were not the regular writers of Supergirl....so it could be a coincidence. Maybe it means, don't let your goodness (what makes you Supergirl) blind you....to the evil in front of you....???? who knows...

Wooooo, Kdogg! Nice catch and nice, interesting theory. And, Sully... true. Surely her short time on the show will mean we are suppose to pay close attention to every word she said.
It could be the phrase appeared twice because the writer's room tends to use the same phrases. Notice how they ALWAYS end sentences with an emphasis on "Always"? Although, I think that's meant to create a theme. But also, anytime a character has been injured and someone from the "team" arrives on the scene, they ALWAYS say... "I'm here, I got you, I got you."
But, in this case, "flying too close to the sun" does seem to be some foreshadowing.

I remember her saying that. Although, I actually had to rewind it because I didn't really catch what she said the first time, lol.
And yes, I believe that she is supposed to be a seer so, even though her time on the show was short, I would lean toward thinking that anything that she told Kara might hold some weight on events that happen in the future. At least, my hope is that it would. Otherwise, why mention that she was a seer? She didn't have to be a seer to have the information on the other World Killers that she gave Kara, which is what they made it seem as though was her sole purpose .
So, yeah, I could see that as a possible direction they might go. It would make for a very interesting and compelling story.

Actually, I think this would be a good end to the season finale:
Like you said, Kara flies close to the sun to overcharge herself and become strong enough to defeat Reign. This works at first vs Reign, but even in her overcharged state she can't defeat all the world killers together. In a final moment of desperation, as she feels herself starting to go critical, she releases all her energy in a super flare. This destroys all the world killers and prevents her from exploding like Overgirl.
However, depending on where this happens it could set up some interesting stories for season 4. If it happens out in space, Kara could be lost in space and presumed dead. In the beginning of season 4 she either wakes up in space or in some random location on Earth (after having fallen back) and has no memories of who she is or what happened. In the beginning of the season she is on her own trying to piece things back together and find her way home. Of course, she gets into all kinds of trouble along the way.
If the super flare happens on Earth, there could also be a lot of collateral damage and deaths, causing people to question whether Supergirl is more help or harm. The government may even try to 'regulate' her activities (a la The Avengers), or call for her to claim responsibility for her actions.

Imra: "What about Tommy and Gina? 'You live for the fight when it's all that you've got!'"
Mon El: "Bon Jovi."
Imra: "Or was that all a lie?"
Mon El: "No. He speaks the truth."

It's true that they established that Kryptonians can't fly in space, in season one. But I didn't mean it so literally. She could take the Legion ship up to the sun, or the DEO/Legion could find a way to supercharge her with solar radiation, on Earth.
I think it'd be a cool route to go and a good way to set up for next year. But it's all speculation, based on a couple of lines. Who knows what the long term plan really is. We won't find out until freaking June, lol.
