Good Afternoon,
I've noticed that some of us are starting to trend a bit negative in our comments. There is nothing wrong with that, however, I am noticing that it seems to be the default starting position for most folks to start their comments with. I wonder if there is something I can do, the community can do, or maybe you personally could do that would help see the bright side of things, I bet that would go a long way to keeping everyone here feel like, while the show has its difficulties, there still is a great show with a perfect lead playing Supergirl.
Here's an outside example I found very relevant for our community here. On Facebook, someone was asking "Who's the best Lex Luthor" and they had Jon Cryer, Rosenbaum, Hackman ect. But why bother asking the question before the episode even airs. It's like you are asking which album is best without listening to one of them.
Many of the show's choices, announcements, come because the show can't hide them anymore and they need to be released. That said, the way we receive information and the way it is decided is done on a very different schedule. I remember when I was announcing the casting of Menagerie and The Hat and much of the comments were "UGH more cast members again". But now that we've seen their storyline, I feel like the Elite had a great short arc that really challenged Supergirl and added to the show.
All I'm asking for is a little positivity and a bit of a pause when new information is announced. We don't know if the choice will be a good one or not until we see the chemistry the story and the on air time of the episodes. Let's save the critiques to after the episodes air.
At least, that's my two cents.

You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun, Kal. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders.
Fair enough. I can admit my frustrations with S4 may predispose me to expect the worst and put me into a rut, so to speak.
I'll hold my tongue regarding my thoughts on announcements.
After an episode airs, no promises.

I'm here because I love that Supergirl exists. I agree that ripping casting choices before episodes even air is unfair. As disappointed as I am in Season 4, I am looking forward to seeing Cryer as Lex. But if this forum is for open discussion of the show, negativity is unavoidable if the show isn't satisfying its fans. I see season 4 (at least thus far) as a painful lost opportunity. Every episode isn't going to be fantastic, but there are clearly top down decisions with this season that are making many fans unhappy. Discussing that issue openly is an avenue for fans to alert producers to their concerns. My input has been from the perspective of bearing witness to problems in the hope they will be rectified. I hope that perspective is welcome here.

In a related vein, I try my best to be civil and respectful to the community. I don't believe I've crossed any lines. (I trust that if I do, I will be rightly called on it.)
Regrettably, it is difficult to maintain this attitude when some use unflattering terms and comparisons to those who raise valid, honest criticisms. If I am poked with a rhetorical stick, my first instinct is to poke back in kind. I like to think that I can control that impulse, but hey, we are all human. I suspect I am not the only one susceptible to that inclination.
So with that in mind, I would politely suggest that all who wish to promote harmony in our little corner of the internet would refrain from divisive terms regarding those with opposing views--be they positive or negative--towards a given topic.

All good points and I appreciate the commitments. I do want to be clear, YOU ARE WILL WITHIN YOUR RIGHT TO RANT AND OR RAVE AFTER THE EPISODE! That's a big purpose why the site is here. I just think if we can wait until we see how it all plays out, we can combat any shade that might lay over an event before we even see it.

Trying my best to like all aspects of the show. That's honest. Sometimes they do make that quite difficult.

I'm on the same page as Liberty Prime. I'm holding my tongue on announcements and what-not...but when an episode is leaving me wanting, I really want to be able to talk about it on here, and how I think it could be steered right (not that writers take our suggestions).
My problem has never been with casting, on this show, so I definitely try not to prejudge castings before I see the performance. The performers involved in this show have been wonderful. What I lament is what I perceive to be poor writing, and lost opportunities for great scenes, whether they be emotional or spectacle, and finally, when it feels like Kara is a supporting character in her own show. I could (and have, on more than one occasion) go into detail about the specific issues, and how I feel they can be remedied. But I understand this is not the thread for that. Regardless, I will try to keep my reactions limited to the actual episodes and how they play out, rather than announcements.

I will and will continue to reserve my assessments of how episodes unfold. Some angles in S4 are working and others not so much.
Many of the gripes regarding S4 and other issues expressed on the news pages in reality should be moved to the Forum section.
Let us all be clear: It isn't the actors or the crews that are the concern, it is the direction, storylines, writing and technical issues that continue to irk the fanbase.

Excellent and reasonable idea to reserve comments on an episode until after you’ve seen it. If I may offer a couple of additional ideas. Sleep on it before firing off a scathing review, things often look different once your mind has had more time to process. A trick I employ when I’m emotional is I write my scathing retort in a word processing program and save it for a period of time. If after waiting I still feel it’s appropriate then I’ll send it. I still have instances where I regret what I’ve said but that trick cuts down on them. This one I know will be difficult, try to go in with a positive mindset and look for things you like instead of things you don’t. It isn’t necessary to like every aspect of the show, I don’t IMO that’s impossible, to have a more positive aspect. Perhaps take a moment to consider if as LibertyPrime said frustration has caused a predisposition to see the worst.

I was gonna tell you this last week, Liberty... But I've been on this site for quite some time. You've been a breath of fresh air around here as of late. You come across as rather nice, mature, kind-hearted fan. When someone's disagreed with you, you always handle it with class. Keep on keeping on. Thanks for what you've brought to this site.

I had an *extremely long, drawn out elaborate post written up here, but on second thought, I decided to save us all some pain from reading it . Instead, I'll just say that I understand your concerns and that I believe there needs to be positives along with the negatives so this site doesn't become a cesspool of negativity. Most of us do not want that to happen. I can also agree with not making a final evaluation of an episode based on promotional photos or a synopsis as both are very limited in scope.
However, using some honest discourse here, the one point that I disagree with is not making an negative judgement about all press releases for a season. At least not when the information includes details which have notoriously been a major issue in the series for four years. Experience and predictability are what guide us to make decisions. They're why some people in society are okay with policy made by the powers that be and some are wary and negative even before we see the outcome. They're why I tell my recovering alcoholic friend that's it not a good idea to hang out in a bar. So, I don't believe it's realistic to expect one to not rely on these same factors in analyzing details released about the show and not have a negative opinion on it.
But, I will try harder to have a more positive predisposition on the items that I feel are more uncertain.

My problems with the direction of the show can only come from what Ive seen....not sure anyone can "help" me see the positive side of that...lol If I don't like the fact that we have seen far too little of Supergirl being Super, and toi much time is being given to storylines that arent necessarily Supergirl driven, only the showrunners can fix that. Again, stull a fan of the show, but it is now moving into the last quarter of the season...and those things are still a problem, forgive me if I don't find much positive about what I have seen. If its not there.....its not there, no matter how much positivity is injected into it. Supergirl has been put on the back burner....and low and behold, it has nothing to do with a ship for once. Heck when she was with Monel we got episodes that were full of action from SG, episodes like Mr. and Mrs. MXY....that gave us action, drama and Kara on her own saving the day, written by someone that understood Kara of the comics is still the heart of this series....I do not believe these showrunners have any respect for the comicbooks. And not sure that I see that changing. Am I open to being wrong and the Red Daughter storyline blowing me away.....good grief yes, that is my hope....but having seen what they did to The Legion, please excuse my scepticism.

Thank you, evrafter.
I'm pushing 50, so I certainly have maturity from a mathematical point of view, anyway.
I lurked here a good while before I joined. And I joined because--well, I grew to like the people here. Thoughtful, passionate fans I wanted to share thoughts with. It's a group made up of fine individuals.
While disagreements are inevitable, they need not displace mutual goodwill.

Ditto today's episode, which appears to have killed several story lines that needed to be put to sleep
There were suggestions that, instead of filming for this episode, Ms. Benoist was already filming for some of the Red Daughter efforts..

Just want to say I am happy we have this site to voice our opinions of the show. I iwish the comments were more positive and I myself have contributed to many negative comments regarding some of the episodes this season. I do agree that most likely in the end we will be pleased with where the show takes us. My only objection has been and always will be is that no one, regardless of their opinion regarding any episode should ever be called out of name on the site. I am pleased with the quick action taken by the Administrative staff when this does happen. I have a feeling that as we go towards the end of the season, we will see definitely more of the girl of steel and her powers.
