Sssoooooo... Elephant in the room...
Are we expected to completely forget all the times the show had obviously pointed out Superman's Legion ring in the Fortress of S?...including the time they visually pointed out said ring was missing (obviously on his hand while he was "off world"?
Aaaannndd... when everytime Mon-El gives Supergirl credit to being who they patterned the Legion after, they want us to ignore Superman, who again, already has a ring? Been pondering this all season.

Something else to consider: In the Season 2 finale, after Kara and Kal recovered from their battle and returned to the DEO, Kal and Mon-El meet for what can be assumed the first time.
I've dreamt of this moment - the two of us teaming up...

That's what I decided to do, too Brierrose. It's the end of the school year, and my brain is teacher tired. And you ain't known tired till you've been teacher tired. lol
I figured they didn't know for sure they'd get to Season 3 and the Legion. I just thought they wouldn't have, this season, so easily disreguared what they already showed us when writing this new plot. However, the hole time travel thang works good, so I'mma just gonna roll with it.

I rewatched the scene with the ring in S1E15 Solitude and to me it looks like a Man’s ring. In Legion of Superheroes Imra’s ring was clearly smaller than Mon-El’s and B5’s. Basically all the rings were sized to thier owners.
The simple IRL explanation is when they showed the ring in season one they didn’t know if the show would get a second season, let alone ever get to have LoH, and they figured correctly that fans would like that detail. Solitude aired 2/29/2016 and Myriad aired 4/11/2016 (I looked it up) they were likely filmed before the show was even internally picked up for a second season.
That being said I’m going with Zender’s explanation so my brain doesn’t hurt.

Im not real emotionally attached to the Legion....What if that is Kara's ring, and not Superman's?
Well, it was already in the Fortress when James took Kara there, which was her first time. And, it looked to be rather big, for a big hand. And then, I remember the Internet going crazy when the director made a point to show it was missing during one of Kara's other visits--everyone speculating he was off world doing Legion stuff; and thus, why he was nowhere to be found when Kara needed help saving the world.
There is so much going on with time travel, who's to say that Supergirl gets one in the future, Superman travels to the future because she is killed and brings back the ring and gives it a place of honor in the FoS. I'm just throwing stuff out there.
That's why I have a problem with this whole Legion traveling back in time to kill Blight. I mean, if Supergirl gets killed in the next few episodes...Well... Just hop on back into their space ship, and try again, but now with the knowledge of who Blight. duh So, really, nothing feels too emotional for me.

That's plausible Zendar. I would like to think, though, that Superman would have known who Mon-El was, at least, then--in this iteration, being the founder of The Legion. But, Kal El seemed as though he didn't when....Wait... I can already answer myself. Following your explanation, Zendar, Superman (season 2) could have already known who Mon-El would end up being, but said nothing to keep the time line from changing.
Thanks, works for me. Now I can watch without being suspect
That was my thought, as well. Superman knows a future iteration of the Legion. It's possible he stayed silent about Mon-El to maintain the timeline.
It's also possible that Mon-El was not a member of the Legion during the timeframe Superman visited. Time travel is funky, and can explain away much.

We don’t know when, in the future, Superman gets that ring. For sake of argument, let’s say Mon-El, Imra & Brainy are from 3017. Maybe Superman time travelled from 2008 to 3028, joined the Legion, got the ring, came back home, and put the ring in the Fortress.
What Mon-El said about forming the Legion based on Supergirl’s ideals is accurate, because at that time, they had not yet met Superman. From their current perspective in 2018, they still haven’t met him. At some point they will go back to the 31st century, and sometime after that, Superman will show up and join them for a while before going back home and take his ring with him.
Time travel is fun.
