I'm not sure I am in love with season 6 so far. Not enough of Supergirl. Too many episodes she gets very little screen time. I'm thinking they are building up the other characters for spin offs or something. I miss previous seasons where you see her strut her stuff...using her powers to save the day and all that. Now, she's stuck in the phantom zone and all the other characters are getting time. Who I am... I'm an older retired guy. Widowed. I have been in love with Superman since I was a toddler. Love everything Superman. All the shows, the movies and I love Supergirl. Really bummed it's going away. I still have to check out Superman and Lois...hoping that is good. My main complaint is that since this show is going away how about a little more screen time for the star?
Well, I feel a little foolish. I did not know about the maternity leave. I might have...does sound a little familiar but I forgot about it as I was watching this season. These comments are very eye opening. I am looking forward to the August episodes. Just got done checking out Superman and Lois...different but I know I will enjoy it.
Don’t feel foolish! The fact that you haven't kept up with all the behind the scenes stuff only means you have a life.

Welcome Quint, I can certainly understand this feeling, as it is Supergirl and therefore you want to see Supergirl. However, as stated by others, we knew the early episodes started filming without Melissa. However, I feel the PZ inserts have been quite creative and have Melissa front and center within her very own separate mini-arc. I think the PZ arc has been more satisfying than early episodes in previous seasons. But, fans differ and so do their opinions. But, next week we should get our favorite super Kryptonian girl back. Then off to a long break before we get the back 13 starting in August.

Well, it looks like our lovely members of this forum covered most of your concerns about the early episodes of season 6. Not much to add and look forward with your comments on Supergirl.tv.

Welcome to the board.
And I'm sure, the success of the show has led to Supergirl being introduced into the big screen DCEU via the now filming Flash film with Sasha Calle as the movie version of the character.
Supergirl, in a small way, helped the initial Wonder Woman project acheive wide success and also helped bring Stargirl to streaming and small screens. It also helped usher in the new Superman & Lois series (although that may not have been the original intention), and the SG brand stands in good stead as she will live on in different iterations for future viewers to enjoy.

Hi and welcome to the SG Forums:
I will second kdogg87's sentiment and state that the first batch of episodes will be SG-lite as she was on maternity leave until January of this year. The rest of the cast and crew filmed their scenes for the first 6 or 7 episodes without her and when she returned from her leave, she did the catch-up scenes on her own.
As kdogg87 stated, it's very likely that episodes 8 and onward (to be shown from August to its conclusion) will have a much more pronounced SG presence since she was available for the regular shooting schedule.
As for the media not covering SG's final season, that is not really a huge surprise. It's a tad disappointing, yes, but not unexpected. Since the end of Season 4 and through Season 5, the show has had a big challenge attracting and retaining its viewership due to a variety of factors. And, in true Hollywood fashion, they've decided to move on to the next big, shiny thing.
There is no negative connotation or shame in not being front and centre in the media since it was announced early that this would be the final season of the show. The cast and crews will move on to other projects and the show, despite its obvious wonkiness at times, managed to achieve its objective of bringing a female-led superhero show to either TV or mainstream movie theatres and be successful.

Appreciate your comments.
I see you're relatively new here. First off, welcome!
Unfortunately, the first 7 episodes were always going to be light on Melissa/Supergirl. Episode 1 was MOSTLY filmed last year, but wasn't finished before the COVID shutdown. That's why Melissa has bangs in it, with the exception of a few short scenes where they clearly used a wig for stuff that was shot this season.
Due to Melissa's maternity leave, she wasn't able to join the cast until they had already filmed 6 or so episodes. However, when she returned to work, they separated her from the rest of the cast in order to film this Phantom Zone side story, just so we could have SOME Kara/Supergirl for these early episodes. Without that side plot, we wouldn't have ANY Melissa/Supergirl for this first round of episodes. She rejoins the main cast in episode 7, I believe.
That being said, I do agree. I am a bit let down. It's still better than seasons 4 and 5, but being light on your main star, especially during the kickoff of your final season, is just a rough way to start.
They are also making it seem like the world just doesn't need Supergirl. There has been nothing about Supergirl's absence in the media or anything like that (in the world of the show), and I find that very odd. The city, and the remaining heroes, should be struggling without Supergirl. That makes her eventual return seem even more impactful.
Furthermore, they had great opportunity to explore everyone's emotional reaction to Kara's absence. Except for Brainy and Lena, I feel like everyone's reaction has been sub-par. Even Alex's. She had 2 very brief emotional scenes in episode 2, and that was about it. She "recovered" way too quickly. J'onn was more worried about M'gann than Kara. He's shown absolutely zero emotion regarding Kara, despite her supposedly being like a daughter. That really bothers me. And Nia? She's shown zero emotion regarding Kara's loss.
Lena and Brainy, though...wow. They've both had multiple, fantastic, heartstring tugging scenes, this season, and I'm loving it. These are the types of breakdowns we SHOULD be getting from everyone, but especially Alex & J'onn.
I will say, though, that we should have LOTS of Supergirl action, after the mid-season break, when Supergirl returns with episode 8 in August. I live in Vancouver, and they have been filming exterior action scenes like CRAZY...I've never seen so many posts about one show shooting around town so often.
We just have to trust that things will kick into gear once we finally get to the episodes that were filmed after Melissa's return.
