It seems just like her comic book counterpart, tv Supergirl has telescopic vision as well as x-ray and heat vision. In the 1st episode, when Kara sees her sister in plane when its about to crash, it would takemore than just x-ray to see her. The distance is just too vast fro some who can only see at normal distances.
Same thin happened in Hostile Takeover. Even if Kara could see into the building, she without telescopic vison could tell the people in the building apart.
Why it isn't mentioned on the show that she has this ablility as well makes no sense.
