The CW is on the move again in the Windy City, which was where Supergirl lived in comics in the 1980's. This time it's going from Fox-owned WPWR-50 to the powerful and historic WCIU-TV Channel 26.
Historic because...the calls of the station mean
We're
Chicago's
Inaugural
UHF station
Signing on in 1964, two years before WFLD-32.
And this station is a pure Chicago story...it's locally owned by Weigel Broadcasting. And it's from WCIU where MeTV, and other subchannel services like Heroes and Icons, originates.
But also, it was the birthplace of the iconic show Soul Train hosted by the late Don Corneilus, starting there in 1970 before going national and to Hollywood a year later.
According to its Wikipedia, just yesterday, Weigel signed an agreement with CBS Corporation through which WCIU would take over as The CW's Chicago-area affiliate, replacing WPWR-TV, which had been carrying the network's programming since September 1, 2016. WPWR will go back to MyNetwork programming.
The station had ID'd itself as "The U" since 1994...now it's going to call itself CW 26...or perhaps the "C-Double-U."
Supergirl is changing stations in Chi-town more than she is her shirts.
