So I've seen quite a few theories out there about the Legion of Superheroes possibly appearing sometime soon (whether that be in season 3 or later). And to be frank, I feel torn about it.

On the one hand, it would be GREAT to have the legion grace our televisions, they could offer so much to the storytelling.
But on the other hand, as we saw over the course of season 2, the writers had plenty of issues with writing for an ensemble cast; so I don't have much faith in them doing the legion and the sg cast justice. The writers seemed to either spend way too much time on a character and/or not enough time on another (it all felt really disjointed to me).

So I was just wondering what everyone else thought about the legion possibly being brought in.

~~UPDATE~~

Now that we know we'll be getting Saturn Girl (and Valor) in the show this season I think it's time to bring this thread back.

  • Any theories on how they'll be brought into the narrative? Rumors are that Mon-El returns in 3.07 but won't be in the crossover (which I find strange, but again it's just rumors).

  • Do you think we'll get another member or members of the Legion further into the season?

  • Will Mon-El be removed from the Legion to stay behind with Kara? I don't see how he can continue to call himself a member if he isn't there with them, but I fear if they do remove him it'll cause an uproar with the diehard comic book fans and likely the average fans as well.

  • Is this maybe a backdoor pilot for a LoS spinoff?

They've already announced Saturn Girl and she's probably debuting with Mon-El when he returns. I think they'll be the first two. They are casting for other characters (there was an audition on Vimeo) so we might also see Lightning Lad, if he's one of the two most important members.

I could picture some Legion characters getting stuck on LoT, but I think the characters from LoT would be a really bad match for the Legion. The Legion skews very young and less nihilist. I don't think I could picture anybody except maybe Nate and Amaya and maybe Jax on there.

I doubt comic fans would riot over Mon-El not being a permanent Legion member. Legion does not have that many fans and they have always had rotating casts. And just because Mon-El might stay with Kara now in current time doesn't mean that he couldn't be with the Legion again 100 years in the future (Legion is set 100 years into the future in the comics).

The most important Legion members are Saturngirl and Lightning Lad. Mon-El was important to the Legion during some parts of it and less important to others. And they already completely changed all of his backstory and the casting stuff about a potential other Legion member also sounds anything but comic canon friendly.

Even if they were thinking of Legion spinoff, I think there is no way it could happen in 2018 without there having been any news of it.

I think for it to feel like Legion there should be at least 2 others, other than Mon-El. Maybe we'll get a small scene, like maybe with just them shaking hands or waving goodbye, with a larger number. Like 5 or more. I don't think we'll get to see more of them fight though. But they could still show up more like an easter egg.

- In a recent interview about his #IDONTMIND campaign, he said Mon-El would show up unexpectedly, so I have no clue how he'll be reintroduced. I know many think it'll be to help Supergirl, but if he's saying it's unexpected then I don't know.

- I don't think we'll get anymore. We might get mentions of other members though.

- That's a tough one. I remember last year when he was first brought in there was a rumor floating around that his character had a two-year stint. Not sure if this still stands though. He's supposed to be Valor, a member of the Legion of Superheroes, but if he stays in the present with Kara he sort of forfeits his membership. Unless the writers decide to completely change what the legion is/does. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

- I'd like it to be. I've heard many people opposing it though claiming financial reasons and that another superhero show is overkill.

How do you get from "appear" to "will have their own show"? We know the Legion will be on Supergirl based on things Kevin Smith mentioned, but I highly doubt the CW as a network is that sneaky that they would hide the production of an entire show, which like casting announcements and everything.

I have heard reports that Legion of Superheroes will appear on the CW in 2018. Your mileage may vary. More important, the network's mileage may vary.

Do you have a source? I have not read anything about that....

I have read of a spin off from "Supernatural" coming in 2018, but nothing on Legion of Superheroes.

My sources:

I'd love for this rumor to be true. I think a LoS show would do well, especially since it could potentially tie into each of the other arrowverse shows allowing for multiple crossovers.

I think it's possible that they will revert James to just being James and no longer Guardian. They could always write him getting an injury that prevents him from being Guardian.

I don't think that too many Legion characters will be around for too many episodes.

Well, I'm gonna change the topic then to which Legionnaires I'd actually want Kara to meet.

I think Cosmic Boy, Lighting Lad and Stargirl are sort of the most frequent ones and hence it's the most likely that we will meet one of them.

I wish that we would get meet some of Legionnaires with more wonky powers, like Matter Eater Lad or Bouncing Boy or Triplicate/Duplicate Girl.

Then of course Brainiac 5 because of the history he has with Kara in the comics and even if they didn't bring that history, he is usually a pretty interesting character, often being abrasive and know it all or having to deal with the fact that people assume he must be a villain because of the evil Brainiac.

Last but not least, I think Dreamgirl (sees the future) would be an interesting character for Kara to meet.

If these are one episode characters, then no problem....but IMO it is already far too crowded as far as Super friends on the show. I don't mind Martian Manhunter and Valor, but when you have 3 very SUPER heroes, I have a feeling they are also going to keep Guardian, and just so they don't give full episodes to him, but he helps out here and there that is ok, but to add any more SUPER heroes when you already have 3 regular full on superheroes would be far to many, other than an episode here and there.

Well....looks like this turned into a "Like/Don't like" Mon-el discussion........*backs out of thread*

Honestly, it's getting very tiring at this point.

You're right I didn't vote. I've said before that I don't vote for TCAs because they have a bad reputation for being rigged. I'd rather spend my time voting for things like the EW cover. But that's just me.

I will say the first round of voting did to seem to have an unintentional effect. Both Melissa and Chris had basically gone into social media black out until the very first night of the round 1 of voting and Chris posted this. And since then Melissa and Chris have been posting a pic or so a day on their instagram.

He is a series regular actually.
They are not developing Kara and Mon-El as a potential endgame like this if he was leaving. Plus to actually introduce another character and building yet another love interest for her is pretty much done and it would be a waste of time in fact that was the complaining in s2. Kara and Mon-El are so huge now that the ship got nominated for a TCA.

Series regular doesn't hold much weight. It just means they're contractually obligated to the show.

As for the 'endgame' stuff, that's up for debate. They built up Kara/James all S1 to then break them up in S2. The same can be done for this relationship. The only people invested in this ship are the shippers. Media and general audience couldn't care less. As for the TCAs, they aren't anything big; nobody really cares about them aside from shippers.

I'd much rather see Mon-El get a legitimate retcon in S3 than continuing to push the relationship. We didn't get much about him so I'd like that to be built. With a nice build on his character then maybe we could a Legion spinoff.

you know the show is up for 6 awards, only 2 were shipping related. I am guessing you didnt you vote for any of the categories like for Melissa or the show in general huh?

Well would definitely rather see Mon-El on the show and have him be with Kara than for him to have a solo story and for Supergirl's screentime to be used to springboard a Legion spinoff. At least if he's with her then there is sense to him being on the show and having screentime and Kara actually gets something out of it.

Plus as a rule of thumb, when storylines radically get retooled from what the writers usually planned, it usually makes the stories worse, not better.

Mon-El isnt leaving. If they bring in LoS then they will guest Star and get Mon-El and Kara will join him Maybe also J'onn to help out in those episodes

I meant at the end of this season. I think I read somewhere that they had a two year plan for his arc. So it is possible he leaves after season 3, for example to join the Legion.

I think it could go either way, I think if they decide not to keep him after season 3 then we might see other love interests like Brainiac5 come in and out. If they decide to keep him, I can picture them not bringing on Brainiac5.

I find myself not wanting the Legion on Supergirl. I really like the idea of a spinoff, as it would allow for so much story-telling.

At this point every CW show started with the character or characters showing on a different CW show first. Even if they, or actually especially if they were doing a spinoff they would use a CW show to first show off the characters and Supergirl would be the most logical choice.

I think regardless of whether a spinoff is an option or not (I personally think it isn't, as I said, I think the comic book tv gold rush is waning, Legends of Tomorrow and Riverdale I think don't have the best ratings), we would certainly see the Legion for 2-3 episodes. Doesn't mean that they would necessarily have a ton of screentime.

Being a series regular doesn't have a lot to do with it. You can be a series regular and they kill off the character. Also, Mehcad is a series regular and his screentime was very low especially at the end of the season.

Also, I think it's a little early to be calling Kara and Monel endgame. We don't have any idea what the writers have planned. They might be or they might not be but I don't think any of us can say for sure.
